THINGS TO DO GETTING MARRIED IN NORTHERN CYPRUS

CyprusWhy Northern Cyprus....

Northern Cyprus provides the most warmest welcome, with its friendly people and its unspoilt, uncommercialised natural beauty....With miles of coastline and golden sands bathed in sunshine for almost everyday of the year, Northern Cyprus will give you all the reasons to come back!!!

An unfair history of political and economic isolation has ensured that North Cyprus has remained one of the most unspoilt and least developed parts of the Mediterranean.

Cyprus is a paradise island of incomparable natural beauty boasting numerous unique historical treasures, living upto its reputation of beeing the gem of the mediterranean.

Time does its own thing here in Northern Cyprus....You will soon find yourselves floating between your time and the Turkish Cypriot time. As you feel the warmth and hospitality of the Turkish Cypriots , you will watch and envy how time has stopped many years ago in Northern Cyprus....

For centuries Cyprus has been influenced by the cultures of many different nations, which has led to an island with a rich and diverse historical and architectural heritage reflecting 9,000 years of civilization.

People of Northern CyprusCyprus is the 3rd largest island in the Mediterranean waters, located west of Syria and South of Turkey. Northern Cyprus has an area of 3,335 sqkm and a population of 200,000.Nicosia is the Capital with Kyrenia, Famagusta and Guzelyurt being the main cities The population is mostly Muslim. There are also other small religious groups which are Moronites (Christian Arabs), Roman Catholics and Jews. In Northern Cyprus Turkish is the main language, but you will find that even in small villages English is spoken, well enough for a minor conversation and also you will experience that the Cypriots find themselves very close to the British. This is probably the influences of the British in the time they Ruled Cyprus.

Brief History....
The island has been occupied by a succession of people from Europe and Asia.

In the 8th century BC it was a part of the Assyrian empire, then the Babylonian, Egyptian and Persian. In the 58 BC the island was seized by the Romans. Richard the Lionheart settled on the island in 1191 during the third Crusade and after selling it to the Knights Templar permitted Guy de Lusignan to buy the island. Cyprus remained in Lusignan possesion untill captured by the Venetians in 1489. From 1571-1878 the island was ruled by the Ottoman empire untill they leaseed its administration to Britain. Independance was granted in 1960, but soon after Greek Cypriots and Greek military troups started problems with intentions to rule the whole of the island ( ENOSIS). In 1974 Turkey, as a Guarentor Country, was forced to intervene to safe guard the interest of both Turkish and Greek Cypriots. The Turkish Republic of Norhern Cyprus ( TRNC) was declared in 1983. See Chart
